baby metal has announced Momometal as their new third member, rounding the band out as a trio for the first time since the departure of Yuimetal in 2018. baby metal unveiled Momometal as a new member of the band on April 1 during a massive show titled BABYMETAL BEGINS – THE OTHER ONE – at the Pia Arena MM in Yokohama, Japan. Which I guess now the whole “the other one” album and show title makes a little more sense, right?
Momometalreal name Momoko Okazakihas been a backup dancer for the group since 2019 and was a part of the Japanese idol girl group Sakura Gakuin. Okazaki was also briefly a contestant on the South Korean reality show Girls Planet 999, but was booted off during the first elimination round.
The lead up to revealing Momometal as a member of the band began back in January, when baby metal started adding coffins to the end of their live show. During the January 28 show, baby metal ended with both Su metal and Moametal walking toward two coffins at the back of the stage. Then on January 29, a third coffin appeared with a third currently-unidentified member walking toward it.
